School Counselling
I provide quality in-school counselling for children and young people. I have worked in both primary and secondary schools and work closely with the pastoral and safeguarding teams.
Sessions take place in a private, designated space in school, during the school day.
I will provide my own equipment; including a Sand tray with figures, games and a selection of toys.
I provide 4 - 6 sessions per school day, in line with your school timetable.
- I hold an enhanced DBS check
- Safeguarding, Level 3
- ICO registered, adhering to strict UK GDPR regulations.
- Full liability Insurance
- Full driving licence and own transport
Why is counselling in schools beneficial?
- It negates the need for a child to be absent from school in order to attend an appointment.
- Parents do not have to take time out of work to transport the child to and from regular appointments.
- It is a familiar and safe space for the child, which may alleviate some of the nerves of attending a therapy appointment.
- It cuts down on vast waiting lists, so children can be seen much sooner than CAMHS waiting times for instance.
- The therapist can work alongside your current pastoral team, complementing your current pastoral service.
How it works:
Initial conversation: I meet with you to understand your school's needs, priorities, and available resources.
A service plan is tailored to your school; including session frequency, referral pathways and safeguarding protocols.
Referral Process: Your pastoral, SEN or safeguarding teams identify students who may benefit from support. A simple internal referral form is used to initiate sessions, with parental consent obtained before counselling begins.
Primary schools only: Parents are invited to meet with Counsellor and discuss aims of the work prior to sessions beginning. They are then invited for regular reviews in line with number of allocated sessions.
On-site session: Held in a private, designated space within the school, on regular scheduled days.
Ongoing review: We offer regular reviews, staff liaison, and progress updates (within confidentiality boundaries) to ensure the service continues to meet the school's needs.
How this benefits schools:
- Collaborative discussion over referral process and priorities
- Supports whole-school wellbeing strategy
- Responsive to pupils' needs without delays
- Helps meet Ofsted or Inspection expectations around mental health provision
- Strengthens family-school-community relationships
"Children and young people deserve mental health care that is timely, accessible and tailored to their needs".
